DC Gun ban declared unconstitutional — ya think?

March 9, 2007 · 2 Comments

Wow! Just clicked on La Shawn Barber’s Corner and found this bit of wonderful news.

I’ve always stated that gun bans are ridiculous, and La Shawn expresses the same view:

D.C.’s crime rate shot up after the gun ban went into effect, and the city has remained atop the high crime rate list. As I explained years ago, gun bans don’t stop criminals from owning and carrying guns. Breaking the law is what they do. My seven-year-old nephew has better reasoning skills than the D.C Council!

Simple common sense — something anti-gun folks clearly lack.

DC’s mayor, Adrian Fenty (D) said “It flies in the face of laws that have helped decrease gun violence in the District of Columbia”. Apparently he hasn’t seen any of the crime statistics of his own city, and doesn’t understand that the ban only means that criminals have guns.

In more good news, he said that he vows to appeal the decision, meaning the SCOTUS will have a chance to affirm that such bans are unconstitutional!

That will be great news! Let’s hope they uphold the decision :)
