Duncan Hunter for President!

I’ve been leaving comments around the blogosphere that I read and follow that Duncan Hunter is the ideal presidential candidate. I admit, I also blog about Fred Thompson frequently, but my heart knows there is no better candidate than Hunter. If conservatives who are adamantly pro-life, pro-border security, against amnesty, against terrorism and for the 2nd Amendment, would just work together and force the msm to acknowledge other names besides Guilani, Thompson, Romney, and McCain, we could get a perfect candidate that I believe can take on the Hildabeast or Magic Negro quite easily. Foehammer’s Anvil posted that Atlas Shrugs will be interviewing Hunter at 9 eastern on June 12th. We should listen.

Border security anyone?:

Do you value human life – born or yet to be born?:

Abortion/Life

1. Right to Life Amendment:

I would amend the U.S. Constitution and provide blanket protection to all unborn children from the moment of conception by prohibiting any state or federal law that denies the personhood of the unborn. Likewise, I have also introduced the Right to Life Act, which would legally define “personhood” as the moment of conception and, therefore, guarantee all constitutional rights and protections, including life, to the unborn without utilizing a constitutional amendment.

2. Federal laws relating to abortion and human life protections (e.g, embryonic research and end of life, etc.):

There are several areas of federal law that require human life protections. I have cosponsored the following pieces of legislation:

  • The Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act, which would amend the federal criminal code to prohibit transporting a minor across state lines to obtain an abortion, if this action circumvents the minor’s native state’s parental involvement law. I voted in favor of this bill when it passed the House 270-157 on April 27, 2005.
  • The Human Cloning Prohibition Act of 2005, which would prohibit and criminalize efforts at reproductive cloning.
  • The Parent’s Right to Know Act of 2005, which would prohibit federal funding to carry out federal family planning programs in which service providers in the project knowingly provides contraceptive drugs or devices to a minor, except in specific circumstances.
  • The Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act of 2006, which would require abortion providers to notify women who want to have an abortion 20 weeks after fertilization that the evidence suggests their unborn child feels pain and they may request anesthesia for their unborn child in order to reduce or eliminate the pain.

I have also supported human life protection efforts with the following votes:

  • I supported the Fetus Farming Prohibition Act, banning the practice of fetal farming, the creation of embryos specifically for the purposes of scientific research.
  • I voted in favor of the Alternative Pluripotent Stem Cell Therapies Enhancement Act, which would direct federal funding to stem-cell research that does not rely on embryos.
  • I voted against the Stem-Cell Research Enhancement Act of 2005, which would have directed the Secretary of Health and Human Services to conduct and support research that utilizes human embryonic stem-cells, regardless of the date on which the stem-cells were derived from a human embryo.
  • I voted against amendments offered to the National Defense Authorization Act permitting taxpayer funded military facilities overseas to be used to support abortions on demand for military women and military dependents.
  • I voted against amendments providing UN funding to groups that support coercive abortion programs.

How about the protection of marriage?

A federal constitutional amendment defining marriage as a union between one man and one woman:

I firmly believe that marriage is one of the most important social institutions we have and that it is central to promoting family values and raising children in a healthy environment. It is for this reason that I cosponsored and voted in favor of H.J. Res. 88 (Musgrave-CO), which proposes an amendment to the U.S. Constitution declaring that marriage in the United States shall consist solely of the union of a man and a woman. I firmly believe that children need the unique influence offered by both a father and a mother.

I prefer Federal Judges and Supreme Court Justices who actually uphold the Constitution. Apparently, so does Representative Hunter:

Philosophy of judicial appointments:

I support people with good judgment, proven values, a belief in God, and a heart for the least of us, including the unborn. I believe it is important that those sitting on the bench understand that they have a responsibility to strictly interpret our nation’s laws and not legislate from the bench with their own political or social agenda.

On my FAVORITE Amendment:

2nd Amendment

It seems every election year, some liberal politician dons an NRA cap and grabs a shotgun for a hunting photo-op, as if that means they support our right as Americans to keep and bear arms. I, myself, thoroughly enjoy hunting, having just recently spent a great weekend hunting elk in Arizona. But, the second amendment is not about hunting. It is about the right of you and me to be secure in our homes. We must vigorously defend against all attempts to chip away at the Second Amendment. You know as well as I do that there is one thing criminals prefer over any other: unarmed victims.

I could go on and on, but you should really just click here for Representative Hunter’s core principles.

One last thing:

In 2006, Duncan and Lynne celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary; they have two sons, Duncan Duane, who served two tours in Iraq in the U.S. Marine Corps, and Sam Hunter, a business student at San Diego State University.

  1. I heart Duncan Hunter! If you’re really ready to jump on the bandwagon, you should get the button I have about halfway down my page. :)

  2. He is the one that always comes up on my presidential tests as #1. Great minds think alike :) However I’m just not sure on the winnability. and though I am not willing enough to compromise with people like Guiliani, McCain…I am more willing to have Thompson if he had more of a chance to ensure those socialists won’t get in! But I love Hunter. I wish there was more force behind him.

  3. Maybe he could be VP? and then our pres in 2016? He seems young.

  4. Hey Tieki,

Just make me that button and put it in my sidebar. I’m taking the plunge!

  5. Hi MZ,

I share your concerns regarding winnability, or electability, though I truly believe there is time to get this name out and win the primary. Once he wins the primary, I believe he’s a shoe in against the dems.

  6. I could vote for Duncan Hunter with no problem. I’m waiting to see what Fred Thompson is going to do. His skeletons have not come out of the closet yet, if he has any. I like what Fred is saying. It’s still early.

    Nice Blog.

  7. Hi Debbie,

I agree, it’s still early — this is why I’m so excited about fully endorsing Duncan Hunter. There is plenty of time to get his name out there.

Thanks for stopping in and The Right Truth is an excellent blog :)

  8. I like the site :) I hope we can prove them wrong, that a man with principle and substance can win and be POTUS. I wan to also make clear Hunter is running for POTUS and not SECDEF or VP, those are appointments. It is very nearly laughable when I see people suggesting Hunter as Fred’s VP. Hunter is solid on the issues, intelligent, articulate, and he doesn’t just pay lip service, he acts on the issues. He is an ordinary guy with extraordinary insights and skills. He has been on this immigration issue since 1986, when he opposed the Reagan Amnesty, that’s 30 years. So, to suggest some one term Senator and tiros is half as qualified, is a suggestion only a star-struck, American Idol culture could make. I understand most Americans don’t even know who he is and likely won’t unless he gets a gig on some primetime drama series. This is one candidate I don’t want to see passed over. He is the candidate everyone always wishes would run, as they complain about having to choose the lesser of 2 evils. Hunter is the guy, the more you know, I promise, the more you are going to like him. Check out his site and you can see for yourself what he has done and not just some carefully selected speeches he has written. Thanks for endorsing him, Wytammic, regards

  9. To Steni, Did you know 1986 to 2006 is 20 years? Perhaps you do and meant that for nearly 30 years he has been on the issue, realizing it has been only 21 since the Reagan Amnesty? :) again, I like the site. Keep up the good work.

  10. Great post, Tammi!

It would be nice to see the MSM endorsing a solid conservative candidate – Guiliani is barely even Republican, and the media gives no attention to anyone to the right of him.

  11. Hi Steni,

I agree, that Hunter will be no one’s VP and that he is more than qualified to be POTUS. Yet, I understand other’s concerns regarding his electability. I believe he will be very electable as the front runners continue to stumble and Fred Thompson continues not joining the race. Honestly, I’ve really had it with Fred. If he really wants the best for the US, he would consider using his celebrity status to endorse Hunter.

I most likely would not have caught the fuzzy math ;)

  12. Hi Bridget,

Yes, Hunter is the man. As conservatives, we don’t need to compromise on a RINO like Guliani, or flip floppers such as Romney and McCain. We just need to work hard to promote the truly perfect candidate — Duncan Hunter :)

I cannot stress enough that this man has a voting record to back up his campaign promises. Rarely does one get that!

  13. Snowballs chance in…well..you know.

  14. No TT, I do not know. We will just have to wait and see. Especially if Thompson doesn’t run — Hunter will rise to the top.

  15. We need Hunter in America’s rust belt.

If we want a Reaganist conservative we actually have to vote for one and Duncan Hunter is just that kind of man.

Others can throw their panties up on Thompson’s stage but I’ll stick with Hunter. He actually has a record that matches what he says.

  16. Hi John,

He actually has a record that matches what he says

That cannot be over emphasized :)

  17. I am firmly convinced that Duncan Hunter, 59, is the only candidate running with the experience, the vision, the strength of character and the cool head to lead our country with all it’s problems today. VOTE FOR DUNCAN HUNTER IN THE PRIMARIES!

  18. I’ll do it Gerry!

  19. hiya WY!..I’m just thrilled there are any candidates we can actually endorse girl! :)

  20. Me too Angel! Hunter is the cream of the GOP crop which means he’ll be rising to the top! :)

  21. Wy……..I like him, but see it more likely that he would be a Veep candidate to try and balance a McCain or Guiliani type of not so conservative Republican……….Next Stop Lauderdale

  22. Hi Steve,

I agree with Steni above. I really cannot see Hunter being anyone’s Veep. Especially because his qualifications for POTUS are higher than any other candidate.

  23. I love him! I do believe he will get my vote!

  24. Hi lifelemons,

I’m really anticipating the opportunity to vote for Duncan Hunter in the primaries. Up until recently, WY has always held their primary elections in August — making them completely irrelevant regarding POTUS. I do believe that has changed and we may be voting as early as January 08 :)

  25. Hi Tammi… I have to agree with TT as far as Hunter’s chances of getting the primary win.

If it happened, I would be tickled and fully supportive, but I don’t see myself, you or most of the commenters as being the reason why he wouldn’t. It’s the folks that are the middle fence sitters. They will not. I think they would pick the Hildebeast over him… media perception is a powerful thing. Prove me wrong and see him get the nomination, I would fight my butt off for him.

I have never seen Law and Order, American Idol or any of that other network drama garbage. I don’t watch broadcast network TV… ever. I have many things I consider much more interesting and far more important. I like Thompson’s plain, straight forward answers to questions. I don’t agree with any of the candidates 100%, or view any of them as perfect. No one is or ever has been. I will support Fred because I am sure he can beat Hillary, I can support most of his positions and because Hillary will surely be the winner of the ass nomination. The media is just trying to make it a horse race btwn. Hilly and Osama… errr, Obama.

And if Fred gets the nom and invites Hunter to run as VP, that would be a fantastic team. I would be even happier.

If Hunter refused the invite, that would be quite telling in my eyes. It would smell like it might have all been about the power and the inflation of self for Hunter, not about what would be best for the country. I don’t think he’s like that at all. And that is exactly why I think he would run with Fred and add the best frosting on a premium cake. His performance as VP would also be the excellent reflection from which to run for Prezi in 2016, after two full terms for Fred.

Prove me wrong and show me Hunter’s hidden voter popularity and I will eagerly, publicly declare my mistake and fight hard for him. I think you’d find that any former Thompson supporter would also join at that point. They sure wouldn’t vote for Hillary because somebody got the Repub nomination who is perhaps even more Conservative than Fred now, would they?

    :-)

  26. Hi DI,

I hope to prove you wrong — but as previously blogged, if Thompson 1st of all runs, then gets the GOP nomination, I will be campaigning hard to get him elected. But, as for the primary, I’m gonna put all my energy behind Hunter. I think he is well enough liked in CA that he could carry that state over Hillary or Obama Rama.

As always — thanks for stopping in :)

  27. I am tired of taking so much on faith and trusting these candidates year after year, election after election. If there is one thing I have learned, you simply can’t trust them, their words are carried on the wind and soon forgotten. Finally, at long last, there is Hunter, whose deeds and actions back up his words. If Hunter is nominated, I have no fears of the Pantsuit or the large auriculated one, bring ‘em. Either one is going to look like a child trying to play President, standing beside Hunter.

  28. Unfortunately, Mr. Hunter is still too obscure. I confess that until this present – endless! – campaign cycle began I had no idea who he was. I’ll stick with Fred. But I won’t weep if Hunter wins the nomination or is drafted into a slate.

  29. Hi Steni,
    I share your confidence.

  30. Hi benning,

Fred is just really dragging his feet getting into this race. I hope the front running GOP candidates such as Guiliani, Romney, and McCain, keep stumbling and then Hunter’s name will start coming up more and more :)

  31. I like Fred too, but no one beats Duncan Hunter. It doesn’t seem like he can win though. He’s right on every issue. Why isn’t the conservative base rallying around him?

  32. Kevin let me know why the conservative base isn’t rallying around him if you find out. It’s just crazy — you’re correct; he’s right on every issue and his voting record proves it. I’ll admit it’s a long shot — but if he could get the nod from the GOP I’m confident he could beat whoever the Rats have on their ticket.

  33. #31 Kevin: You seem to have it right and are asking the right questions, I couldn’t agree with you more. It is early yet, so chin up, candidates will rise and fall, come and go, before the polls open and the votes are cast. I wrote a snarky answer to your question to someone who asked the same at FR, after a poll there. I was being really sarcastic and I doubt it will help answer the question, but it may be worth a laugh, so here it is:

Because we are the drive-thru, 30 second sound bite culture, and wouldn’t know principle, integrity or honor if it bit us on the a$$. We can’t be bothered to educate ourselves on the issues and candidates. We demand all that “stuff” be spoon-fed to us by the MSM, because, “We The Sheeple” can’t be bothered with all that, I mean, we are only choosing the leader of the free world. I mean, we would educate ourselves, but, “American Idol” or “Law and order” is coming on in five minutes! You see, just because Hunter is the best on the issues, and can back it up with his record, doesn’t mean he is electable. I like Hunter, but, frankly, I have seen him on TV only a few times, and even then, it wasn’t his show. I mean why would I vote for Hunter? Not that I won’t, but I would feel better if someone on TV told me to vote for him, or if he was more popular. Sorry, I couldn’t be more help. :)

  34. Hunter was silent on the gun bill that passed yesterday. Only a real small government defender, Ron Paul, of the Second Amendment, spoke up in defense of liberty.

  35. Hi C Bowen,

I guess you’d have to point me to a link and explain what is meant by silent.

Hunter’s view on the 2nd Amendment is listed in the post. Plus, you can link to it.

  36. Silent, in that he said nothing, hence me asking why a “Second Amendment Supporter” would be silent?

The first gun control bill in ten years was passed in the House yesterday on a voice vote because the cowards didn’t want to go on record with their support.

Only Ron Paul dissented on the House floor:

Gun Control Bill’s Senate Outlook Uncertain

The only lawmaker who spoke in opposition to the legislation was Republican Ron Paul of Texas, who called it a “flagrantly unconstitutional” imposition on the rights of gun owners and said it would “undermine privacy rights” of all Americans by expanding government databases.

  37. C Bowen,

I guess I fail to see what point you are trying to make other than Ron Paul doesn’t mind people who have been adjudicated by a court as mentally incompetent purchasing firearms. The NRA actually supports this legislation as written. Therefore, Duncan Hunter takes a very reasonable position on this, while Ron Paul’s position is insane.

    Wednesday, June 13, 2007

On June 13, the U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed H.R. 2640 by a voice vote. H.R. 2640, the “NICS Improvement Act,” is consistent with NRA’s decades long support for measures to keep guns out of the hands of those who have been adjudicated by a court as mentally incompetent. Additionally, H.R. 2640 makes some much needed, and long overdue, improvements to the NICS.The basic premise of the bill is to provide an effective mechanism to help screen would-be gun buyers with adjudicated mental illness records. H.R. 2640would require federal agencies to provide records of prohibited individuals for use in the NICS, providing financial incentives to states to do so. It would not prohibit any additional people from owning guns. Those blocked from buying a gun due to newly provided and updated records in the NICS are already prohibited under current law.

No piece of legislation will stop a madman bent on committing horrific crimes. However, those who have been found mentally incompetent by a court should to be included in the NICS. In addition, the NICS should be as instant, fair, and accurate as possible.

Among the numerous improvements contained in H.R. 2640 are:

Certain types of mental health orders will no longer prohibit a person from possessing or receiving firearms. Adjudications that have expired or been removed, or commitments from which a person has been completely released with no further supervision required, will no longer prohibit the legal purchase of a firearm.
Excluding federal decisions about a person’s mental health that consist only of a medical diagnosis, without a specific finding that the person is dangerous or mentally incompetent. This provision is intended to address concerns about disability decisions by the Veterans Administration concerning our brave men and women in uniform.
Requiring all participating federal or state agencies to establish “relief from disability” programs that would allow a person to get the mental health prohibition removed, either administratively or in court. This type of relief has not been available at the federal level for the past 15 years.
Ensuring—as a permanent part of federal law—that no fee or tax is associated with a NICS check, an NRA priority for nearly a decade. While NRA has supported annual appropriations amendments with the same effect, those amendments must be renewed every year. This provision would not expire.
Requiring an audit of past spending on NICS projects to find out if funds appropriated for NICS were misused for unrelated purposes.

This bill now moves to the Senate for consideration. NRA will continue to work throughout the process and vigilantly monitor this legislation to ensure that any changes to the NICS benefit lawful gun purchasers, while ensuring that those presently adjudicated by the courts as mentally incompetent are included in the system.

If anti-gun Members of Congress succeed in attaching any adverse amendments to this bill, we will withdraw support and strongly oppose it!

  38. So Duncan Hunter supports Federal Gun Control, exactly my point, Leftie.

What is it about the 2nd Amendment that you folks don’t get?

  39. Ouch! Leftie? That’s funny :) . The part I don’t get is where you think it says it’s okay for someone who’s been adjudicated by a court as mentally ill to purchase firearms.

It would not prohibit any additional people from owning guns. Those blocked from buying a gun due to newly provided and updated records in the NICS are already prohibited under current law.

If you read that, it wasn’t even new gun control, it is simply providing updated records for laws already in place.

  40. Mere Spin, “depends on what the meaning of ‘new’ is’, it puts law abiding folks in a database, and does nothing to address letting aliens own guns….Just about what I would expect from someone who also supports Fred Thomspon, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the folks who don’t care about borders and wants to make Canada and Mexico part of our ‘family.’

Real conservatives should say no to Duncan and Thomspon.

  41. “Law abiding folks” like Cho Seung-Hui? Nutcases like him need to not only be put in a database but a freaking insane asylum. As a “law abiding folk” who loves to shoot, I am glad that there is legislation like this preventing court-determined psychopaths from owning guns.

  42. P.S. Don’t call my mom a leftie. That’s just rude. We don’t call you a moonbat for supporting Ron Paul (even though you are).

  43. Sorry to comment three times in a row, but I just couldn’t resist linking to
    Ace’s post
about Ron Paul’s vote against the latest gun control bill. You’ve got to scroll down to comment #5. :) I wish I was that clever!

  44. Cho Seung-Hui was an alien and should not have a right to own a gun, but the Gun Grabbers saw an opportunity and even a guy who pretends to be against “immigration” went along with building a database of gun owners.

    Real conservatives know the score.

  45. [...] but probably not because I have some great comments posted here . It’s comment #42 from the Duncan Hunter for President post: P.S. Don’t call my mom a leftie. That’s just rude. We don’t call you a moonbat for [...]

  46. This is my first time reading your blog, but I have to say, go Duncan Hunter! This guy is fantastic and the only real conservative that also agrees with my other values (values that aren’t necessarily conservative, like being hard on China and reducing middle east oil dependancy). I think if the blogs really pick it up, he has a chance. There is a lot of time still. A good thing is to bombard talk show hosts with e-mails and phone calls. Is there a good website organizing efforts for him besides his site?

  47. Hi SK,

Is there a good website organizing efforts for him besides his site?

    .

I’m not sure. It’s been so hectic around here with concerns of the WY GOP Central Committee sending a good conservative replacement for Senator Thomas that I really haven’t done much else. I’ll sure post it if I find it and if you find anything else, feel free to let me know.

    Thanks for stopping in!

  48. To all American Conservatives! Vote for Hunter/Thompson on 08.

  49. Thanks Patrick! That would be awesome :)
